Deezer Competes with Spotify and Amazon Music by Launching Innovative AI Playlist Generator

Deezer has introduced an innovative AI-powered playlist feature, recently announced on Monday. This new capability allows select paid users to create custom playlists simply by providing a text prompt through the “Playlist with AI” function.

This launch follows several months after Spotify and Amazon Music began testing their own personalized AI playlist generators. Additionally, YouTube is reportedly piloting a prompt-based AI radio feature.

Deezer plans to offer this beta feature to 5% of its paying subscribers. Users can craft new playlists using prompts that describe specific moods, genres, decades, activities, and more. For example, you might request an early 2000s pop-rock playlist to energize your workout, or a 2010s feel-good playlist to enhance your study session.

Before generating any playlists, Deezer ensures that prompts are free from hate speech, dangerous content, sexually explicit material, or harassment. “We’re thrilled to launch this AI-powered feature for Deezer users worldwide,” said Alexandra Leloup, VP of product at Deezer, in a press release. “Whether you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack for your workout, a romantic evening, or a nostalgic journey, our Playlist with AI feature curates a unique musical experience in seconds, opening up endless possibilities to discover new music effortlessly.”

Deezer has revealed that this feature is powered by Google’s Gemini 1.5 AI model. The platform has been harnessing AI to improve music recommendations and the overall listening experience for users. Its flagship feature, Flow, already employs AI to generate personalized mixes based on user-selected moods and genres. Additionally, the Shazam-like Song Catcher feature utilizes AI to assist users in identifying songs.

At this time, Deezer has not announced when the Playlist with AI beta will be available to a wider audience.
