Introducing the Next-Generation Humanoid Robot from Startup Figure AI

The latest innovation from humanoid robot startup Figure AI is the Figure 02, a cutting-edge robot with improved hardware and software features. This next-generation robot boasts enhanced dexterity with 16 degrees of freedom and human-like strength in its hands, making it capable of performing a variety of tasks. Figure AI claims that the Figure 02 is the world's first commercially viable autonomous humanoid robot designed for both commercial applications and potential home use.

Standing at 5.6 feet tall and weighing 154 pounds, the Figure 02 is powered by a custom 2.25 KWh battery pack located in its torso, allowing for extended operation time of more than five hours. With the ability to walk at speeds of 2.6 mph and lift objects weighing up to 44 pounds, this robot is equipped with three times the computation and inference capabilities compared to previous models.

The Figure 02's new computing hardware supports features such as an onboard vision language model, enabling rapid visual reasoning capabilities. Additionally, the robot features integrated cabling for improved reliability and packaging, alongside speech generation capabilities in response to human commands. This technology leverages custom speech-to-speech AI models developed in partnership with OpenAI, which has also invested in Figure AI.

Figure AI recently showcased the Figure 02 in a BMW car manufacturing plant, where the robots were observed handling parts, transporting them to designated areas, and accurately placing them in position. This partnership with BMW demonstrates the potential for humanoid robots to become integrated into the workforce, improving productivity and efficiency while enhancing the quality of life for humans.

With a valuation of $2.6 billion and a recent successful funding round of $675 million, Figure AI has attracted support from major players like Nvidia, Amazon, and Jeff Bezos’ Explore Investments fund. This expansion of talent and resources highlights Figure AI's commitment to advancing the capabilities of humanoid robots and moving closer to their vision of improving human life through robotics innovation.
