Microsoft's Copilot, a generative AI tool designed to generate text and provide answers to specific inquiries, is now accessible as an in-app chatbot on Telegram, the popular messaging platform.
Currently in beta, Copilot for Telegram enables users to engage in friendly, conversational interactions with the AI chatbot. It can respond to a diverse range of questions, from casual queries like “What movie should I watch?” to live sports updates such as “What baseball game is on right now?” This feature was initially highlighted by Windows Latest.
You can easily access the bot by searching its username, @CopilotOfficialBot. The service is free for all Telegram users and is compatible with both mobile and desktop devices. However, keep in mind that it requires your phone number for access.
Microsoft has already integrated Copilot into various applications, including Microsoft 365 and Teams, as well as its AI-first hardware, Copilot+ PCs. The extension of Copilot to third-party platforms like Telegram is significant, indicating Microsoft's intent for its AI chatbot to engage within diverse social applications.
Other tech giants are also adopting AI chatbots in their messaging services. For example, Meta recently announced it is testing Meta AI across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, while Google’s Gemini enables users to access generative AI through Google Messages on Android. Additionally, Snapchat utilizes ChatGPT to enhance its AI chatbot capabilities, allowing it to respond to Snaps.
In response to the competitive landscape, Telegram is launching new 'Business' features along with revenue-sharing options to strengthen its position against Meta.
