Apple Provides Complimentary AI Training for Developer Academy Students

Apple is taking a significant step to shape the future of technology by offering free AI training to all students and mentors enrolled in its Developer Academy program. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of developers to fully embrace the potential of artificial intelligence.

Since its launch in 2013, the Apple Developer Academy has provided free tuition for coding and app design, focusing on platforms like iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With the recent announcement, Apple is broadening its curriculum to include comprehensive courses on AI fundamentals, as well as detailed instruction on how to build and train AI models effectively.

The program will also delve into CoreML, Apple’s powerful framework designed for creating AI and machine learning applications that can seamlessly operate on Apple devices. Participants will engage in project-based learning, supported by experienced mentors who are well-versed in the intricacies of AI. Additionally, they will have access to advanced developer tools, including Xcode 16—the latest version of Apple’s integrated development environment, featuring coding assistant tools like Swift Assist.

Over 12,000 alumni from the Developer Academy will also have the chance to partake in this new AI training. The courses are set to commence this fall and will be available to students in the U.S., Brazil, the Republic of Korea, and Indonesia.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president for worldwide developer relations, expressed the company’s commitment to empowering developers, creators, and entrepreneurs. “At Apple, we see coding as a universal language and believe in equipping individuals with the tools and technologies necessary to create extraordinary experiences,” she stated. “With the introduction of curriculum dedicated to AI and other emerging technologies, we’re excited to see what innovative projects our students will develop to enrich their communities and the world.”

In addition to enhancing its Developer Academy, Apple has also open-sourced 20 new AI models that utilize CoreML technology. These models are designed to enhance AI processing on a variety of devices, including iPhones, enabling advanced AI capabilities for all users. This initiative underlines Apple’s commitment to fostering innovation in AI and machine learning while making these powerful tools accessible to a broader audience.
