Google's Generative Search Feature Now Displays Relevant Videos and Images for Enhanced Results

Google is enhancing its AI-powered Search Generative Experiment (SGE) by incorporating contextual images and videos. This innovative feature was first announced at the I/O conference in May, and later rolled out to select users who opted into the experiment via Google Labs.

With these updates, SGE now delivers relevant images or videos tailored to your search queries. For example, if you search for "tiniest birds of prey" or "how to remove marble stains," you’ll see related visuals or instructional videos right in the search suggestion box.

Additionally, Google has introduced the publication dates for suggested links within SGE. The company stated, "To give you better insights into the recency of the information from these web pages, we’ve added publish dates to each link. We’re also continuously experimenting with simpler ways for users to discover web pages that support the information provided in AI overviews."

Google has also implemented performance enhancements to ensure users receive AI-generated results swiftly.

Those interested in exploring these advanced search capabilities can sign up through Search Labs, accessing them via the Google app on iOS and Android, or through Chrome on desktop.

As part of its foray into generative AI, Google has been integrating this technology across various products. Its chatbot, Bard, recently made its debut in the EU, expanding support to 40 languages. Moreover, the company has launched several AI-driven features across its Workspace tools and introduced generative AI solutions for enterprises. Just this week, Axios reported that Google Assistant will also adapt to incorporate generative AI functionalities.
