How to Disable X (Twitter) from Using Your Data for Grok AI Training

X, formerly known as Twitter, has automatically enabled a feature that allows the platform to train its Grok AI using users' posts. This new setting is activated by default, but the good news is that you can easily disable it and remove your conversation history with the AI.

When this feature is turned on, X can use your posts, user interactions, inputs, and results from Grok for training and fine-tuning. According to the platform's settings page, this also means that your interactions may be shared with its service provider, xAI, for these purposes.

While you cannot disable this setting on the X mobile app, you can do it on the desktop version of the platform. Here’s how to turn off X’s data-sharing settings:

1. Open the Settings page on X using your desktop.

2. Click on the “Privacy and safety” option.

3. Select “Grok.”

4. Uncheck the box.

Once you have disabled this setting, you can also delete your conversation history (if applicable) with the AI by clicking the “Delete conversation history” button.

Earlier this week, X owner Elon Musk announced that xAI has begun training its Grok large language model on what he claims is “the most powerful AI training cluster in the world.” Musk suggested that this AI model will become “the world’s most powerful AI by every metric by December [2024].” It’s now evident that Musk and X aim to enhance their AI further by leveraging users' previous tweets and posts.

X is not alone in using user data to refine its AI; recently, Meta informed EU and U.K. users of a similar change planned for Facebook and Instagram. While Meta initially intended to proceed, it eventually paused its plans due to regulatory pressure.
