Telecom Company Behind Biden Deepfake Scam to Pay $1 Million to FCC
Earlier this year, AI-generated fake audio of President Biden reached voters in New Hampshire, raising significant concerns. In response, the FCC acted swiftly, pinpointing the culprit as Life Corporation, a Texas-based firm with a history of similar scams. The agency imposed a hefty $6 million fine on the company and an associated individual. Alarmingly, the scammers collaborated with a problematic telecom known variously as Lingo Telecom (formerly Ameritel, Excel, Impact, Startec, Trinsic, and more). As a consequence, Lingo Telecom will face a $1 million civil penalty and has pledged to adhere strictly to regulations moving forward.
